Seitsemän scorea – Seven scores
7 posters (59 x 84 cm)
ARToulu area, Oulu
2026
The seven scores written by Maarit Bau Mustonen invite residents of Oulu and visitors alike to carry out small performances in public spaces. Drawing on themes of perception, the body, and time, the scores create moments that depart from the everyday and suggest shifts in perspective. The scores are presented as large posters in Toppila, Hietasaari, Tuira, and Oulu city centre.

A score is an instruction, a task, or a recipe that, when followed, allows the viewer to realize or take part in an artwork. Bau Mustonen’s scores combine practical guidance with poetic thinking and imagining. The work generates gestures, movements, thoughts, and actions that potentially anyone passing by can perform or witness.

The graphic design of the posters is by Samuli Saarinen. The scores were translated from Finnish into English by Kasper Salonen.

The seven scores will be on view from May 11, 2026, for as long as the posters remain intact, are removed, or are covered by other posters.

You can find the poster locations here.

The work was commissioned by Oulu Artists Association for the ARToulu area. ARToulu is part of the European Capital of Culture 2026 programme.
